Hi - I’m looking for two real Blue Java banana pups in Houston, TX. Does anyone have any available (or a wait list for next spring)?

Before joining this forum, we bought two “Blue Java” from Ted/Green Earth online and recieved Gran Nain plants instead. While I’m sure they’ll make great bananas, they’re not quite what we wanted to put in the ground next to the pool. With the number of Namwa bananas being sold as Blue Java, I’d love to find a pup from a confirmed plant.

Thanks in advance!

poor little namwa. nobody wants em.

fastest thing I got growing in the yard. majestic. grow like weeds, don't mess around. by the time a gran nain or dwarf cavendish make a foot these babies are 6 ft.

Namwah are tough plants also. It's the only plant in my collection to be able to poke a hole through my two layers on my greenhouse. It's also the first plant to give me a ripe banana. So good!

Thanks, all. I love the idea of tough plants that produce tasty food with minimal effort (my Mexican plum and Jujubee trees are also fantastic in that regard), so I'll probably add a Namwa at some point as well. My 6yo daughter is super excited about the idea of blue bananas in the backyard though, so it's worth the wait and effort to find a real Blue Java.

:2732: so what color do you think the namwa nanners are, hmm. why do you think they get past off as blue java?

That's a great question - I don't quite know! Google images shows mostly green bananas when I search "Ice Cream Namwa banana" vs more bluish ones with "Blue Java banana", and folks seem to be able to clearly tell the difference when flowering/fruiting. Do the bananas actually look very similar?

My Namwahs are a short fat banana with a green skin. Now someone correct me if I am wrong. But I think Blue Java is a larger banana and has some angular shape similar to a Orinoco. Of course the skin will have a bluish tint to it. I will know for sure after mine blooms.

kinda stuck myself in a corner with that one didn't I. I have both. confirmed and not confirmed. but haven't had one fruit yet. I bought a confirmed namwa and a blue java to see what i had previously purchased. i have done a lot of research on the matter.

I apologize. but you might want to research this for yourself. the wiki is a good place to start.

course the wiki is rather WEEKY. but its got some good pics.

cant find off hand some of the pics I have seen but close as I can make it

I have what I had assumed was an ice cream (blue java) banana. I planted in 8/2018 as a 3 gallon transplant and it's nowhere near fruiting yet. Based on what I'm reading here, I have my doubts as to whether it will turn out to be the real McCoy.

Does anyone have any real Blue Java pups for sale? I'm in Palm Beach County but I'd be happy to pay a fair price and shipping if you're not too close.
