This banana was purchased as a Musa Basjoo . . . I never thought much about it until it just put out a flag leaf. Now I have no idea what it is but am hoping it is edible :)

This was planted early May 2017. It is in full AZ sun facing south and does not really get sunburn (110 for the last week). It did not die back in winter. There are currently 3 pups (plus 1 I dug up and gave away a month ago). It is about 9 feet tall. Here are some pics:

It is certainly not M. basjoo. Appears to be an edible cultivar, perhaps either 'Orinoco' or 'Namwah', but keep posting photos as the bunch develops and we can give you a more definitive ID.

Thanks, I will post as it develops. Also the pstem itself is only about 6-7 ft (the wall in the back is 8 ft). Glad to hear it is probably edible!

Here is an updated photo with the first two hands. Based on other pics on this site, I think you are right with dwarf Orinoco. There are 8 fingers on each of these hands.

Yep 100% tall Orinoco. Congrats! Gotta love those dark green leaves! Even though it is 7’ or so the way those leaves are hanging tells me a “tall Orinoco” the dwarf has way shorter pedicles and the leaves stand much more erect.

Great job!
