Has your Ice Cream fruited, and if so do you have pictures?

That does not look like ice cream to me. Maybe HMelendez or TyTaylor can give you a better ID.

Commercial sellers have a lot of mislabeled plants and their employees aren't always careful about what they pack either. As a precaution I recommend you flower and fruit any plant before selling the pups.

Thats a possibility and people will have to make that decision. Im not trying to hide that, my plants are right there where people can come look what I have.

I’m a newbie. How do you separate and when do you separate the pup from the parents plant? I have a super Dwarf cavendish.

Best day

Spaugh, I know you mean no harm. But with so many mislabeled bananas out there already, it would be smart to sell your "Ice Cream" as "unidentified" until you have fruited them and can confirm the ID. Ice Cream is one of the most commonly misidentified bananas for sale.

That's the spirit! Haha.

How tall is the pstem of your flowering ice cream? Thanks!

Never mind---just reread and noted that you said it had not flowered. I thought it had flowered but not fruited. My bad.

The unidentified banana labeled ice cream blue java stem is around 8 to 9ft tall. I figure it will be flowering this summer. It was the last one planted and is a few months behind the others. Seems to be really stretching fast now.

I will just keep the pups I have and start tossing the new ones. All the plants make tons of pups, seems like a big waste to discard them.

... All the plants make tons of pups, ...

In my experience, bananas grown in containers or locations with little room for root expansion will pup rapidly. This is apparently a natural response when a rhizome encounters a barrier.

... seems like a big waste to discard them.

I give away extra pups for free. Usually (even on this site) nobody wants them and they end up in the greenery bin.

Yeah no takers so far. I have 6 or 8 in pots in case someone wants one that is coming for other plants. I have a small farm and nursery on 10 acres out here. The bananas are just for fun. I have them in a compacted ground spot so yeah they cant really stretch the feet out much. Maybe thats why so many pups. Or maybe I just am lazy and not keeping on top of them enough. I have a lot of other stuff to take care of, these were just for the heck of it. They grow easy enough but the pups are a pain. I got a couple new types in pots. I may put them out on a hillside where the ground is softer and see how they do there.

I am in Arizona, but hoping to make it back to San Diego this summer. If I do, I'd love to come see you and buy a pup or two. I'm even "game" for an unidentified but labeled ice cream pup. I have one of those as well only I think mine is a manzano. lol

Has your raja puri produced fruit?

The raja puri has fruit on it at the moment. Have not tried them yet. I am on top of a hill and lots of wind. My leaves getnpretty shredded by the time fruit is ripe.

I have a few raja puri trees potted up if you want one. I am in poway off 67 near lakeside.
