Gave away a few musa basjoo pups last month, sword suckers over two feet tall with decent corms and healthy root systems, to a guy last month who has complained that they aren't doing well.
First of all, they are in full sun, as in all day long. Mine are full morning sun. So he has that going against him.
Also, he waters at night, I've always watered in the morning. Can't imagine leaving the plant to roast in the Dirty South heat and then dumping water into our clay soils overnight. Strike two?
Finally, he has them mulched with river rock, probably in the 1-2" category, right up to the corms. I would think this wouldn't help cool the roots like mulch would.
Anybody care to offer share some experience that I can relay back to him? I recommend Bananas.org to anyone who receives one of my pups, but it's like leading a horse to water.
Thanks in advance!
