Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and bananas. I am located in Orlando, FL and recently got a blue Java and a Fhia 3 banana
And wondering how far/close to the fence can I plant them? It's a vinyl fence if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I have some planted 2-3' from my wood fence with no problems. You just need to keep an eye on them. When they send up pups too close to the fence you cut them off. If you have the room then five feet would be better so you could access all side of the plant.

Forum member H Melendez just little south of you tucks them in pretty close.
Seems to really do well.

I like 4 feet so the backside is easier to access.

My namwas are planted three feet from the fence on the south side. A bit tight getting behind them to remove suckers but not really a big deal. Less would be a pain in my opinion.

Thank you everyone for replying! I think I will plant them 3 ft away from the fence when they are ready. Right now they're kind of small tissue cultures that I have put in 3 gallon containers.

I measured my bananas that are planted close to my fence. They are three feet away. That is a good distance. At three feet when they grow a pup towards the fence you can keep it. I do have one that is about a foot from the fence. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm going to have to move it eventually.

I have a couple within a few feet of my house foundation and they grew to almost 20' last summer. A six or eight foot fence isn't going to look very big when the bananas have a season of growth.

Far enough away so the neighbor cant pick you bananas. ...:2623: Otherwise you may need a Boarder Patrol.

Two or one foot away from a fence or house is fine until a pup pops up toward the obstruction. Then you have a difficult time pruning off the pups. It you let it go for a while a grow a small mat you can have a real problem on you hands.

Thanks Bill. I’m planning on keeping a distance of 3ft and remove any pups that grow near the fence.

If you have the space, a good distance is 3 ft. far from the fence!.....Personally, as expert/experienced grower Mike (cincinnana) mentioned, you can plant them close enough!......I have been doing it for a while without having any problems!.....

Thanks HMelendez. I will plant it at 3 ft. Maybe when I get more experience and comfortable growing bananas I wil grow a little closer.
