Any ideas? Fruit is about 6ft off the ground. Smaller diameter stems and sightly taller than dwarf cavendish. Smaller rack than my dwarf cavendish also.

Looks like an Orinoco to me.
I agree with edwmax, Orinoco.

It is called banana blossom or a lot of people refer to it as the heart of a banana three. Some people add it to their salad.

Does't look like either dwarf or tall Orinoco to me. I was thinking more like 'Raja Puri' perhaps.
If you want a better shot a good ID, keep posting photos as it develops, and DO NOT remove the male bud below the bunch, it is very useful for proper IDing.

It’s not a bluggoe like Orinoco. No color on fruit ends, female flowers are not Orinoco. Peduncle has too much color. For sure not Orinoco.
I fairly sure it’s a Musa Raja Puri.
Prune the last 2-3 full hands!! It will make the fruit much larger and fatter. Raja puri is amazing! A tropical almost banana-pineapple taste. I love them.

Can the bunch be a California Gold? I haven't seen my Cali Gold fruit, yet.
Here is a picture of my Orinoco from last year for comparison. I do see the Peduncle has some color and not green like Orinoco. But both set of flowers show a light lavender & white color. The banana leaves appear much darker than my Orinoco, but I thought that could be older leaves.

I just looked at the Cali Gold pics in the wiki, there were no good pic of the female flower and the Preduncle was green ( no dark coloring).
Can anyone post a good picture of a California Gold bunch with a fresh female flower?

Do you guys think it could be a goldfinger? I have the tag for it somewhere, just need to eaither dig it out of the mulch or out of my tags box. I cant believe I lost the labels for these plants. I have over 100 fruit trees and these are the only ones not labeled. I had posted some photos of my other tree and you guys called it dwarf cavendish. Then later I unearthed the tag and sure enough it was a dwar cav.
I think I may have purchased a goldfinger but cant recall its been a while. I will have to try and find the label. I have another banana that was labeled ice cream and I know which one it is but it hasnt flowered yet.
Heres my other racks on the dwarf cav plant

Gabe always beating me to it! By 4 mins! hahaha. I’ve seen this flower and bunch a lot! It is a real raja puri! I’m 100% sure. Gabe posting makes me 110% sure haha. I have never found Gabe to be wrong. He knows his stuff!
Cali gold is a dwarf Orinoco. I have the original Cali gold. The flower and bunch is exactly the same as a dwarf Orinoco in every way! I’ve tested it vs DO for 3 years now and the only difference I find is that Cali Gold is 6”-1’ shorter! There is no cold hardiness difference I can tell either! Now I’ve seen online sellers sell Cali gold as all kinds of things! The correct Cali gold form is a dwarf Orinoco in every way!
I’m sure I have pictures. I will try to find a flower of each to add to my Flickr. I’ll see if I have a Raja puri bunch for y’all to compare also.

I looked what banans the local nursery sells and dwarf orinoco was on the list so it may be that. I did not see the raja puri. I will post more pics as they get larger.

Beautiful raja puri bunch! That huge bud!!! For sure sign of raja puri!
If you hurry and prune the bottom 2 or 3 hands your fruit will be much bigger and able to eat them! Just take a knife and cut the last 2-3 female hands! Cut the whole hand off! While your doing it you could also cut the big bud off! It would speed and help filling. You can also run your hands over the female end flowers that are dried up. “Called deflowering” and it helps filling as well!
Great bunch!
Congrats!
It’s so funny that 9/10 people trying to buy a Raja puri ends up with a fake one or a DO or Cav haha you didn’t even buy it and ended up with the real deal! It is truly a great banana! I love the tropical tasting fruit! Pruning is a must though! Trust me!

It may have been labeled raja puri when I bought it, I just can't remember. It came from exotica nursery in vista CA.
I have 1 more unlabeled plant, 2 more "ice creams" from differet nurseries, and a dwarf namwah all yet to fruit. So I will be doing more IDs in the near future.
Thanks for the ID.

Still a raja puri? I have a bunch of pups in pots I would like to sell but do not want to mislead anyone in the type.

Great, I trust you guys. Just never want anyone to feel I have misled them. I have a small farm and nursery and always try to be honest and would not want to ever sell a mislabeled plant. Getting a wrong plant from someone is the worst.
So my dwarf cavendish plant was ID'd here and I found the tag for it. But I noticed it doesnt have any red color on the leaves of the pups. Anyone know why?

Are you pinching off the male bracts or are they falling off naturally?
I'm a novice but I have made a pretty exhaustive review of just about everything on this website about RP and GF and seems to me that retention of male bracts is a major identifier between RP and GF. Might want to let the male bracts run for a bit to see what happens and post that pic up as support for the determination of whether its a RP or a GF.

I removed some of the lower female fruitset based on advice here. Did not want to remove the bud so it would be easier ID as it matures. I am not going to be removing anything else.

Yeah, that's the thing to do.
Just about every request to identify a banana I have read on the site requests the poster to retain the bud long enough to get a good look at the male flowers and see how they perform (stay on/fall off) to get a pretty conclusive identification. You are right at that critical moment after so much time has passed. I hope to be there in month or so too!

Your doing perfect! Removing the female end flowers helps! You can wack the huge male bud off also if you want. It helps! I like to break them off by hand.
I recommend you very very very much to take a knife and cut off the 2 bottom hands of fruit! Please trust me!! It will reduce the number of fruits but fatten up the rest! If you don’t do this to Raja puri you end up with lots of small fruit! Larger plumper fruit are much better! Try it! You will be thanking me later!!

I removed more fruits but left the bud. I have another flower coming out of the same plant on another stem. I will post picks of that one soon. Looks like a really big flower forming.

Heres another flower on a new stem on the same mat. How many is too many for 1 mat? This plant has a 3rd forming. My cavendish also has 3 racks now. A 3rd is now forming on both the raja puri and cavendish. And I have another flower on a mystery plant forming which I post a photo of soin for ID.

Heres some bananas off the tree. I think they could have hung another few weeks but they are pretty good tasting. Texture is nice and flavor is similar to store banana.

Wow they ended up huge! Is that the same bunch as we IDed raja puri? Those look like goldfingers.
Awesome job!
They look great

Looking back on the later pictures that show yellow male flowers rule out raja puri! It looks just like my Musa fhia Goldfinger!
A lot of times with the environmental factors that effect colors and 2d pictures it’s hard to tell. It’s just not like being there looking at it in person! But I believe you have a Musa Goldfinger! Raja puri fruits are not that size or shape and do not have yellow flowers.
Maybe we will get an expert to confirm Goldfinger so you can be sure your selling them correctly!

They maybe look larger in the photo than they were. They were pretty small nanans.
Thats really unfortunate that you are saying they are not raja puris now. Before you said you were 100% sure and that you guys were the experts. Based on that, I sold many trees at the local nursery labeled "raja puri".

Could be one of the 'Goldfinger' off-types perhaps.
