Hi everyone,
For the past few years I’ve been searching for Blue Java, to no avail. A grand total of 3 times, I’ve been fooled into thinking I’m buying one that turns out to be Namwah. Does anyone have a pup they are willing to ship to Louisiana? Thanks in advance,
Kane

Unfortunately that happens a lot with Blue Java. Many, many of them turn out to be Namwah. My first banana plant was purchased as a Blue Java, but turned out to be a Namwah. I planted it right inside the door of my greenhouse as a reminder to know what your selling, and to know what your buying. It's the first plant you see when you open the door.
The current pups on my Blue Java are spoken for, but I should be able to offer some later in the season. There are other members besides myself that do have the Real Deal. I am sure someone will help you out.
Good luck!

I have a variegated tall Namwah and variegated "ice cream" sold to me by the same person. I can't tell the difference. I mixed them up at some point as well. I doubt they are different. Is there any way to identify a blue Java vs Namwah without it fruiting?

I have the real deal but all of my pups are sold out and I have quite a long wait list. It is a very cold hardy plant and great producer. You can click below to see my pictures. If you don’t find one by later in the year I would be happy to help.
Going Bananas in southern FL is who I would recommend. Buying from most online nursery/eBay/90% of people you are going to get a Tall Namwa.
An actual blue java looks more like a leaning, powery, tall Orinoco than a namwa. Not sure if I’ve ever had one that didn’t lean. I had a bunch last year and I really enjoyed them. Great tasting banana. Very sweet and creamy. No vanilla taste but they are creamy and good!
Good luck getting one! It will do great where you are! You have a very similar climate to me. Feel free to contact me anytime. I can share tips for our area and also what varieties do best here! Blue java is one of them!
Your correct Seth! Variegated Tall Namwa and variegated ice cream are the exact same! I have both as well and they are exactly the same. There is no variegated blue java that I know of. Some sellers will say anything to take your money! It’s fairly easy to tell! When a seller is pushing expensive variegated plants over normal green ones be careful.
And never ship anything without a phyto out of the tropics! There are so many Musa diseases there that we are lucky not to have here! Many that once you get, it’s impossible to get rid of!! Ask for a phyto! Or better yet, don’t buy from the tropics! Soil/soilless mix/bare root. It doesn’t matter! It’s not safe! A lot is spread through water! Do your research!

I vouch for Ty, he is a Musa god. When he spits mats just unfold like green Spanish fans.
In all honesty, Ty is one serious vault and knowledge of Bananas and techniques.
I am also in Louisiana and looking for Blue Java.

Don’t be afraid of TC plants! Just always wash all the tc media off! And make sure the plant has 100% humidity for at least a week. Message or email me and I can walk you through it. I have done many many many and never had a problem! It’s very fun and a cool experience!
