Musa 'African Red' is an ornamental banana species that grows 6-8ft tall. The inflorescences are a bright pinkish red. The bees love the flowers. Ours are growing in filtered light and it wet, mucky soil. They are thriving there, real vigorous growers.

Frank,
I saw that picture on the HPST Board...very nice. Why haven't you entered that in the 2009 Photo Contest yet? If it wins (4 will win), it will go in the magazine.

Mark i don't want to hijack this thread but why cant you get descent verities don't people in the UK want lots of choices? its cant be climate theres all sorts of zones in the UK i could be wrong on this but i think of the English as being better then average gardeners on the hole i mean who doesn't love a English country garden with a few Bananas thrown in for variety!

I know for one, they have very tight import regulations, and unlike some places, they actually seem to care and go to fairly impressive lengths to keep plants out that do not have proper certification and inspection.

Nope. Deader than a doornail. I dug it last week and it was all rotten. Oh well...more room for something hardy!

Eric in my gallery I have three clumps of plants with the same striping on the bloom. It's rare to see the pearl white striping.
