In the Fall of 2016 I cut back my container grown Musa and stored it in my friend's root cellar for the Winter. When I took it out in April it already had a sizeable sprout on it. It grew to over 7 foot on my deck. Last Fall I again cut it back but also did some root pruning to be able to put it in a smaller, more manageable, pot. It went back in the root cellar for the Winter. When I took it out about three weeks ago, it was pretty dry. I watered it well and put it in a sunny spot in the house. We had a couple of warm days, so I set it outside for a couple of hours. I noticed that the stump had a tough skin on it, so I cut that back a little and the stump under the scab was moist. As of today there are no signs of life. How long should I wait before totally giving up on it? Is there anything I can or should do? Thanks for any information/suggestions.

Sometimes after a long winters rest it takes a bit for a plant to restart could be as long a 30-60 days.
The plant is not using water so do not water it.

Give the plant continous warmth 75+ degrees and see what happens

Also give the plant the sniff test, does it smell rancid/rotten.
When you peeled the dry outer layers of stem was the inner stem white or brown.
White is good while for me brown means possible issues (dead).

Hope it sorts itself out.

Thanks for all of that information. If Spring ever arrives it would be helpful. For now I will stop watering and keep it warm. When I cut back the stump the inner stump was white and moist. There is no smell at all to it, so I will be patient.
