HMelendez, another question about the sand. Where do you find yours and what are the best deals for quantity/price/bulk? I saw this on HomeDepot, but it doesn't seem like coarse sand.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Quikrete-50-lb-Pool-Filter-Sand-115350/202314677?MERCH=REC-_-SearchPLPHorizontal1_rr-_-NA-_-202314677-_-N
Price is reasonable which is why I was hoping this is what you used. Yours almost look like pebble sized instead of beach sand.

hope I don't mess up what hector told you but I have a lot of experience with silica sand.
I mostly dealt with 6/20 [real coarse], 20/30, and 30/65 [very fine].
I have a bag of pinch a penny coarse sand which I tried hectors home brew and with my experience with potted bananas concluded I do not have enough experience to use it at this time.
the graduation of the sand from home depot says 20/40, pinch a penny does not give a graduation on their sands but I would say home depot sand is about the same size the coarse pinch a penny coarse sand. the home depot sand MIGHT BE a bit more coarse.
the price on the home depot sand is better than half the price for the same size bag. :ha:

So basically the Pinch a Penny sand is twice the price? Hector told me the silica sand in the link above is what he uses.

yes pinch a penny is more than twice the price. I have never bought home depots pool sand but I use their play sand for sand blasting which is very fine and about half again cheaper. definitely would not recommend the play sand for bananas.

Looking good Hector! The Praying Hands bunch is really cool. I'm gonna to add that one to my collection. I've heard a lot of good things about its vanilla taste.
Any of the recent cold weather make it down to your part of Florida? I've had some brushes with the low 30's and growth is at a standstill. An emerginng flower has been frozen in time for about three weeks. Looks like someone hit the pause button on a video!

was supposed to be 32 here in the morning for the last couple of days, made it to 36. frost got almost all the leaves in the back yard, but didn't hardly do anything in the front yard. my praying hands and the fhia 17 were the worst hit in the front. hard to tell at this point what they will look like after this morning. my dwarf Brazilian flowered but the leaves on her still look ok, but winter will probably take her all out.
plants looking great guys. :08:

Yeah, mine just started showing bronze on the leaves here and there after this latest brush with low 30's with clear skies. The deep blue-green summer leaf color has faded to a dusty, yellow green color. We will have almost a week of upper 60's and lower 70's coming up which will help. Looks pretty sad in the banana patch but I will have harvestable bunches for Christmas.

Hector do you treat the end of the rachis after you cut off the bell? I noticed that the end of the rachis looks pretty clean at the cut but mine (untreated) seem to develop a bit of mold/mildew on the end although it doesn't appear to have effected the bunch.
Thanks!

as usual looking great banana doctor. found out one thing about my sumatrana's this last year, when they are small they do not do well in direct sunlight. I had to use 50 percent shade cloth which worked. I am thinking this coming year to move them in a more shady spot.

*****An Update!*****
Musa Señorita/40 Days (Cuarenta Dias) Nana keeps growing quick, fast!....First leaf that she opened got burned because of temp drop while she was outside, at my house balcony.....LOL!.....Not a big deal!.....I moved her inside in my house just for a couple of days, then back outside to the balcony, when temp goes up again!....

TC Seedlings keep growing nicely!....I already removed the clear humidity dome!....Now they are in growing light only!....Last picture of them in small cups!....They will go to bigger pots, using pool filter silica coarse sand and perlite as soil/medium!.....

as usual looking great banana doctor. found out one thing about my sumatrana's this last year, when they are small they do not do well in direct sunlight. I had to use 50 percent shade cloth which worked. I am thinking this coming year to move them in a more shady spot.
Master Beam,
Thank you for the awesome advice, suggestion!.....I will keep it into consideration to find the perfect spot when transplanting Musa Sumatrana X to the ground!.....Most likely bigger Nanas will provide shade for her!.....
