I've had the dream of one day tasting a Gros Michel banana but alas I don't have the room for such a plant. I live in Arkansas where it gets below 32 fairly reliably in the winter. I currently have a 8ft tall banana plant growing indoors under a good amount of grow lights until the weather gets better. I bought it on ebay claiming to be a highgate but I dont know for sure if that is what it is.

I am looking to buy the shortest dwarf gros michel I can get my hands on, but finding someone who sells these things is hard. Does anyone have contact info on a private seller or commercial grower of dwarf Gros Michels? Thanks

I agree also! Amazing honest guy!

I will say I have Highgate and they easily get 10’-11’. I know lowgate is shorter than Highgate but not sure how much. I don’t grow lowgate. In Bananas “Dwarf” is sometimes 10’+ But it’s called dwarf since it’s shorter than the tall version!

Also beware! If you choose not to buy from JD/pukpukz watch out for sellers! Just because they will sell you a “lowgate” doesn’t mean you will get a lowgate! It’s sad what some people with do just for money now days.

Good to see someone from AR! I went to school in Fayetteville!
Good luck! Gonna be a challenge fruiting one there! I have yet to fruit any of my GM types! Hoping One of my Paggi pstems made it and will fruit! It’s protected but GM types are sensitive! If you see me posting about fruiting one of mine before you fruit yours just PM or email me. I wouldn’t mind sending you a couple fingers. I’m just like you. I wanna try GM also!

I have a "Highgate" but since I bought it on ebay I have many doubts. Its sad to hear that even in the banana plant world fraud exists.

I actually live 30 min from Fayetteville actually. Originally from St. Louis and previous neighbor in STL grows dwarf cavendish, in the winter he just cuts them and brings them inside for storage. He gets fruit every 5-7 years.

My current setup has a 120 watt focused led grow light pushing out a little higher PAR values than a 600 watt HPS lamp. That should keep the banana plant happy, so far this winter it has been growing a new leaf every 2 weeks. I have a 10ft ceiling which should be enough before the plant gets too tall. getting it back outside should be fun. I really need a lowgate just so it is easier to manage in the winter. Hopefully one day I will live in Texas where I wont have to worry about the winter.
