:08: hello!! Repotting my two banana plants and need soil advice.

My wife bought me a bag of Gardener & Bloom Organics: Blue Ribbon Blend potting soul...ingredients: peat moss, coir, pumice, recycled forest products, rice hulls, bark fines, composted chicken manure, hydrolyzed feather meal, dried poultry litter, bat guano, kelp meal, worm castings, dolomite & oyster shell lime (as Ph adjusters), alfalfa meal...

Do i need to add anything to this or will this work fine?

Thanks :bananas_b

Add some sort of grow lights ..what are you planning to use?

For me it is late in the season to repot..because your plant has to start over in poor conditions.

Hint....A container is easier to maintain over the winter if the roots are little/alot tight in the pot.....hard to over water and fertilize.

Your mix has all the stuff the plant needs ......and then some.

Ants colonized my bananas and are killing them. They are indoors. "Add some light...what are you burning?" Huh?

Sorry .......the posts are mixed up.

Your soiless mix is a good mix.....should do well for you.
How do you plan to grow your plants this winter?

I plan to keep them indoors as I always have. Just trying to get them healthier. They were happy and thriving until the ants took over

If you do an insecticidal drench you plant will sort itself out..

Use a saucer to catch the overflow and create a barrier.

Wow ,you must have a real situation on your hands

I usually have "sugar ants" in a few of my containers.. Arg, I know what you mean.
And Just in case they are not in the pots and coming in through the baseboards
Terro liquid ant baits work wonders..now you see them ......now you don't
And fun for the whole family to watch.

At big box stores:)

diamasious earth. Just dust it around everywhere. Totally safe and will kill all bugs and ants. So safe you can even eat it!!

For the potting soil i always mix 30-50% perlite! Amazing stuff for bananas. My favorite mix is!
30% perlite
20% pure rice hulls
50% quality potting soil

Try it for future use. Yours sounds ok. I wouldn’t repot now or anything.

I do realize you have small ones. and I was hoping that it was a good fit.

Off hand no..... I use the synthetic stuff,.. you will have to google for that one to see if it fits your budget....
Terro... liquid ant baits work awesome.

Next year drench a few weeks before you bring the pots in....you might want to try that.

Im going to be getting some ladybugs come warmer weather to help. growing castor beans near by also wards off bugs.
