trying to store these dry rooted,, the leaf stalks seem to be rotting down by the cormb,, they have been kept in the garage for about three months now, never gets below 40 degrees,, think they are musa bajou's
the one in the center I have peeled down a little, the dark portion seems to be rottining,, just turning to mush,, the outside two I have peeled all the way down,, question is should I remove all the mushy part? I have about 15 of these doing the same thing,, they are about four feet tall and under,, I also have 6 or more that are 7 or 8 feet tall,, seems that they might be trying to do the same thing

Thank you,, I have had some do this when growing, just kind of dry up and die like in your pic, but these seem to be rotting, ( maybe its not, this is my first year for plants, and storing dry rooted ) its real mushy like snot, I'm afraid that it will keep going into the stem if left attached, I have about four months to go yet before planting.
I also have 5 big ones at the lake house stored in the garage and about 30 smaller ones stored in the house in a dark closet,, I haven't checked on them in about a month, (going this week end) last I checked it seemed like they were doing it farther up the stem,, I'll attach some pics of them,, there was also some mold growing on the corm where the pups had been cut off, I guess this in normal?

these pics were taken 12-17-17,, that's a ten ft ceiling by the way.
another question is,, am I waisting my time leaving them this tall?
sorry for all the questions, this was my first year for growing plants

Stag beer......makes great wallpaper in the man cave..
Many folks do it exactly the same way you're doing it..
And there are plenty of threads to back up your current way of doing it.
The size is ok, mine are just as tall with a few forum members plants are taller yet.
As time passes (another 70 days) the plants will desiccate and look terrible.....but that is the norm..
They will shrivel turn brown and black and just look like my aunt jean.:nanadrink:
Mine look pretty bad toward March.
You had said the plants might be Basjoos......then next year leave some in the ground to see if they are hardy in your area..... or switch them all out to real Basjoos.
In your zone you should have no issues growing this plant(basjoos) outdoors year round.
And your labor will be cut to a third as well as the Stag consumption..:08:

Thank You for the comforting advice.
the three in the first pic are Basjoo's, ( so I'm told ),, I have them at home in S E Missouri.
the other big ones are supposed to be Orinoco's,, id'd by you in, " Ideas what these are " in id section.. these are in western Kentucky, about the same zone. The fellow I got these big ones from, said he tried cutting some off and leaving them in the ground, ( I don't know how well he covered them though ), and none of them came back.
I could sure use the labor cut, and that would leave me with MORE time to consume Stag, Yee Haa !!!
