like the one in Woody Allen's film, Bananas,

because of the insane dictates of its leadership. The latest was a $0.01/ounce tax on sweetened, including artificially sweetened, beverages. After being subjected to saturation advertising for this tax by Michael Bloomberg (the Democrat ex-mayor of NY city) that made me want to smash my television set, the tax was repealed as of 12/1/17. You can see photos of the dictators here:
Can the Tax (http://stopthecookcountytax.com/content.aspx?page=about)
Of the 17 Cook County Commissioners, only 4 are Republicans, the rest are Democrats. All 4 Republicans voted against the tax. As for the Democrat commissioners who voted against it, I bet that all of the Democrat commissioners had a secret meeting to decide which of them could least afford to lose voters to the tax, i.e., they were ALL in favor of the tax.
And, you would think they learned their lesson on 4/26/2006, when the Chicago City Council banned foie gras, the fatty livers created by force-feeding ducks and geese. (Cook County is just an extension of Chicago politics into the suburbs.)
I hate living in a Banana Republic.
