Looking to buy some Gros Michel and Mysore bananas - the fruit, not the plants. Does anyone have some for sale? Or know of a place that does?

The closest I've found is the 'mixed banana box' from Miami Fruit, but there's no guarantee I'll get either type of banana I'm looking for.

I'm in North Florida, so I could drive to South Florida if you know of a source there. But I don't want to take a trip unless I know for sure there will be bananas waiting for me.

Thanks! :08:

They are $100 per box. That's not "a little expensive" that's "astronomically expensive". :ha:

And they're not immediately available, you have to pre-order to be put on a list. That's an expensive list.

Plus, it's 14 pounds. I don't need that many. Hoping someone on here can sell me two bananas? :waving:

Don't feel bad. There's always next year! I'll be waiting. :0517:

Interesting idea. I don't have any local friends who would be interested, but perhaps a few people on here might be? If they're as hard to get as it seems, perhaps there are some who want to split a box.

is there a reason you want the fruit instead of the plants?

I live in middleburg. but I am relatively new to banana land, so I do not have any fruit yet. also do not have Pisang Ceylon yet but I have Gros Michel growing.

Mostly because I'm curious about the taste, but also too impatient to wait 18 months to grow one. :ha:

If I like it I would consider planting one or two in the spring. I have an unknown banana now which survived last winter's frost (I live in North Florida) without any effort, but the year before every banana plant for miles around died off because we had a hard freeze. So I'm sure I'd have to take precautions if I had Gros Michel. Just want to see if it's worth the effort. :weightliftingnaner:

don't believe you will go wrong with mysore. a very popular banana here. have not seen anyone complain about the taste, most every one love em. both banana plants are cold hardy to zone 8, so you SHOULD have no problems there.

I am just south of jax. here the leaves WILL die off, you just cut them off when they do and in the spring they will proceed to come up again.

Does that delay flowering?

don't know. they will go to sleep for what ever months its really cold. the plants I have slowed down that last cold snap we had but are going again but a little slower. here we do not want them to flower until spring or early summer or we will probably loose the bunch.

haven't got much choice here. xsept for moving to Hawaii or Miami.
