View Full Version : Blooming in cold weather
I live in WA state and it is starting to get cold at night. I grow bananas in pots and put them in the garage over the winter month. Right now they are under our covered porch and I noticed this morning that one of them is starting to bloom. Should I bring it in the house where it is warmer or put it in the unheated garage with the other bananas? What happens to the bloom when the temperatures are too cold?

I would bring the plant inside if you want to grow bananas. ... It's not what happen to the Bud, but what happen to the pstem when the bud/bloom dies. The pstem is done for. ... Any new plant will come from a pup.
Post a picture of the plant.

Once flowering is initiated, it will continue to completion. Once flowering is initiated, there will be NO new leaves and roots, so protecting existing roots and leaves is imperative. The more warmth and sunlight you can provide, the better.

I too am a midwesterner.
Your plant is at the end of the growing season...But since it is a new thing for you ...try to milk it out as best as you can.
