Can anyone tell me what this is. The lady who gave it to my wife had no idea what it was. She got it in TX. but I don't know that it is native to there, probably not. My wife said it grows almost like a vine but is very heavy. It is growing in a large pot and drapes over the sides and has very small root ball. The leaves are succulent like. Almost the texture of a Jade yet very glossy. The leaf shape reminds me of the Tea Cup Elephant Ear. Any clues??-Nate

It sounds like a neat plant! I had fun searching what it might be but no luck!! Looking forward to someone coming up with it. Pretty leaves!

It looks like a Begonia of some sort. Until it blooms, I won't be able to help you more; there are over 500 types in Ecuador alone.

I dont know what the name of it is... but here in Holland you can buy it in a normal gardencentre, as a houseplant.

Should add that the leaf is thick, almost 1/16".

Interesting, looks similar to Water Pennywort but the edges are different, for starters.

leaf looks close to the pepperomia style, they also call it jayde, not the jade, see if anything matches?

That was my first reaction, as well. Indian Pennywort, Asiatic Pennywort, or Water Pennywort. Also, Pegaga, or Gotu Cola.

It so happens that I was just sent some seeds of these from the Philippines. I haven't received them yet. As soon as I grow then and they have enough leaves to show, I'll post pictures of them. But here are some pictures, that I got from the net.

There is a Chinese legend of a Tai Chi practitioner in the 1400's, who ate three leaves of this plant every day and lived for 253 years! Also, in India, people eat the leaves for mental clarity, lower blood pressure, and good blood circulation.

I have this as my groundcover now(pennywort). It's not by choice mind you,I just can't keep it pulled out. It is perfectly happy growing in a foot deep mulch bed.

Same here, lagniappe. Its a pest and an invasive nuisance in the hot South. I've been trying to eradicate it for years without success
