Hi all I live in zone 9 & I bought & planted a blue java ice cream banana plant 3 weeks ago. I have put 2 photos in the gallery but can't link them to this post. I have read and reread post on how to add photos but I just can't get it. I tried to add more photos to gallery & now I can't seem to do that. Anyway after 3 weeks it has only grown 1 inch out the top in the last week. About 3 inches above soil line where I planted it plant has split and a knot has emerged with a small stem about 2 inches has emerged. Did I not plant this deep enough. Should this be happening above ground. Plant is about 2 foot tall. I will keep trying to get pics linked to show what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the reply Tytaylor77. Is it normal for this to be happening above soil grade-all pics of pups look like the shoot come from underground. Also this plant is only 2 foot tall - is it normal for a plant this small to put it pupil

Yes depending on the variety they can pup very small. This pup is very very close to the pstem. It's actually inside the pstem a little. Usually dwarf cavendish or super dwarf cavendish pup very small!!
It's still coming from the corm which is underground. If parts of the corm are exposed above the surface (yours is not! ) then pups can form above the soil level.
