Hey All,

I have a Blue Java that has 2 pups and I was going to remove to send to people. I figured the main plant is only about 5 feet tall and should definitely produce more pups before it finally fruits.
Wrong
I went out to cut them off the other day and found a Flag leaf emerging! At Only Five Feet Tall!!!

Tried uploading another photo but site wouldn't work. Anyway.....

My question, Is it OK to remove at least one pup while it is fruiting? I didn't know if it will that cause the plant to devote energy to repairing the damage and producing more pups, thereby affecting fruit production or, will removing at least one pup provide MORE energy for fruit production?

Thanks in advance

Wait till the male flowers appear, then you can remove a pup. Removing the pup at the beginning of flowering might shock the plant and reduce the size or quantity of fruit.

Glad to see your plants are still standing. :)

Are you referring to the Hurricane? We had no damage at all. It wasn't much by the time it got up to where we are. I should have cut the leaves off my Hua Moa as it was the tallest and had a raceme developing. There were just a few fruit... poor production, but it snapped in the wind. Other than that, no issues.

Thanks :-)

I would cut 1 then wait 2 weeks and cut the 2nd. I have cut 2, 3 at a time while a flower is emerging. As long as you don't just destroy the root system she should be ok. I try to only remove 1 every 2 weeks when possible. Just to give the roots time to heal and anchor back. Remember pups also anchor the mother plant!!

Congrats on the flower!! I have a real blue java a couple months into filling now. I have taken 4 pups off since she bloomed. Blue java is a very fun flower to watch! One of my favorites!
