Hello all!
I'm new to the forum and in need of desperate help!
My husband and I have been trying our hand at banana trees for a few years. We got one nice and very large tree from a friend. After 3 years of waiting, it's finally producing!
Unfortunately, the whole top half of the plant broke off in hurricane Irma 😭 Is there anyway of saving the plant? We're hoping both halves are salvageable. The bananas are only a couple inches long. One bunch hasn't even emerged from the leaves yet!
Is there any way of transplanting the top alf? And will the bottom half continue to grow?
Thanks in advance for any ideas, answers, suggestions, etc.

Nothing that I know of. After its connection is broken from the corm it's pretty much mulch for the next generation. Irma has eaten a lot fruit!! I know of several very rare and beautiful bunches she destroyed!
Just cut it at ground level and new pups will come up to flower next year!

Can you post a picture of the plant? ... I'm assuming the plant broke over and has not separated. Does it have a bud and bunch growing? .... Are the leaves still green & not yellowing & brown? As long as sap/nutrients are still getting to the fruit, it may still ripen; don't do anything except may be support the fruit off the ground.

If the top of the trunk fell over and is still connected there is hope.
If you have 2 separate pieces then it is over for that pstem. The unattached bottom won't survive and an unattached top won't transplant.

Ugh, it's in two pieces, sad to say. That's a bummer. I thank you all for your answers. I just wish they were better news. Should we cut the bottom half off at the ground? Would that allow it to regrow?

Yes. The part above the soil is just a pseudostem, the real brains behind the action is the corm below the ground and that's where your pups will come from.
