I live near Honokaa, on the Island of Hawaii (aka The Big Island). Moved here from New Jersey four years ago. Bananas have always been a favorite. In NJ I grew Musa basjoo, outdoors, for several years, keeping it alive over the winter with mulch. I also had Ensete ventricosum (the green variety, that I grew from seed) and the red variety 'Maurelii', both of which I wintered over in a small greenhouse.
Here, in Hawaii, I have the popular apple banana, Cuban red, ice cream, and several others.
