When I finished my pit green house I planted 3 bananas inside a dwarf Cavendish on the right side of the entrance door and a dwarf Orinoco on the left also a blue Java but it is not relevant to this post they grew fine that fall and all winter but in April they died to the ground the dc first then the Orinoco not sure why the died down the blue Java was fine and is still growing .about a month later both put out pups and began growing rapidly but the Orinoco was now a dwarf Cavendish complete with wine colouration
the original plant was a pup from a dwarf Orinoco I had had for several years with no red at all
and appeared to be a true Orinoco I still have numerous plants from the original stock and none show any red colouration at any stage of growth the only thing I notice is there not as cold hardy as I think they should be maybe not a true Orinoco? any way here is some pics the Orinoco is to the left of the door also some pictuers of the same stock the orignal Orinoco was from I guess its possible that a root from the Cavendish grew over to the Orinoco but I dont think so I never saw a pup that far from the mother some one help figure this out its driving me nuts

both plants Cavendish on right

and this is two plants from the orignal dwarf Orinoco that the one planted in the green house came from it was exactly the same in color and shape before it came back changed

Pretty little bananas, but there was a mix up somewhere.
They are with out a doubt not Orinoco plants.
Orinoco has no red at all in the leaf. Pink, yes, but no red.

The roots grew over to that spot due to the bricks. Then sprouted when exposed to air & light. .... I thought this was possible as I've seen pups too far from the mother plant to be directly off the corm. ...

yep and the first year it looked like a typical Orinoco absolutely no red at all and it appeared to come out of the old corm I guess its possibly a pup from the other side but I really don't think so also the colour is different from the other one possibly a mutation of some kind? also the leaves are slightly more elongated than the Cavendish on the right

The new plant is 100% not dwarf Orinoco. And is in fact dwarf cavendish. Everything from the growth patten, roundness of the leaves, leaf color and "look" and wine spots verify dwarf cavendish. Not a mutation for sure! I would be taking bricks out looking for a connection!!! I wouldn't be able to help myself lol.

I honestly doubt a connection that far. But I have learned to not bet against banana plants. They can do some strange and amazing things. A Musa Mekong Giant can put 10-15' away easily.

I'm very interested!! I hope you figure it out! Let us know if you do. Oh your dwarf Orinoco in the picture is for sure dwarf Orinoco!

well no evidence of roots growing that far . and I examined the base of the current groth closely and this one clearly was growing up through the old dead psudostem along with 2 pups off to one side so still no answer did find one old pic with the plant in the corner but not a good one one leaf shows a little dark in the photo but it was not red honest my wife may have a different pic on her phone I will check plant was near 4 ft tall when this picture was taken
