Hi everyone,
I haven't been on the forum for awhile due to a computer issue I just got fixed. How is everyone?
I had a couple of questions, I have a dwarf cavendish banana plant I am growing in a container here in Zone 7. I had a couple questions.
You see, my banana is now getting taller. It is about three feet high now with some suckers on the bottom. My question is this, what do I do about the suckers?
Also, do container bananas produce? If they do, when do they produce?
Keep in mind I don't have much experience with bananas. I would post pictures, but I don't know how. I forgot how to.

I know of a lady in Tampa who produces cavendish in containers. Takes lots of room and good sized containers.

Hello,
Thanks for that information, I know they need big pots and a lot of space. I am just trying to get more information and n the plant.

I grow my dwarf cavendish in pots and am getting my third bunch, one had 98 another had 50 and this one is still blooming so I don't know how much it will give, i take off the suckers fairly small 1' because it can get difficult once they get to big.
Good luck on your plants, i really enjoy mine.

Hello,
Thank you, it's good to know that they produce. I will take off the suckers.
Thanks!

Hello, Sarah... What are you doing to fruit D Cav. in zone 6/7? Some on here claim fruiting bananas in your zone is nearly impossible, but here you are doing it. Please tell us all in detail how you are doing it... How many years between bunches?
WOW! I am impressed.

I have a greenhouse that I have my plants in for the winter, it can go down to 47˚ (not really supposed to) and i had one bunch come out in Nov and about 7 months later we eat it, my second one came out in January or somewhere around there and that one got ready alot quicker. I have them in fairly big pots, I am not sure what to guess 20gal? The first ones I purchased from Burgees the flower came out at 1 1/ 2 years, now last summer I let a plant grow for a replacement and now it's just around a year and I am getting fruit, I did plant some in the ground as well but that turned a little sour, one of those is also producing at 1 year, so if i keep my pups lined up right I should be getting bananas every 1/ 2 from my two pots. I also have a super dwarf cav. And the leaves are coming out smaller but recently I heard that those barley ever fruit?
I water the plants every day, and maybe fertilize them once a week, its not always but sometimes I do.
I planted some outside now to see if i can line things up to get fruit outside! But that's wishing :) if you have any question I missed I'll try answer, it doesn't feel like I do anything special.
