Calling all experts, about 3 days ago this leaf popped up on my Blue Java and is only 1/2 the length of the others and is straight up. Now i know from ready many post the it could possible be a flag or pre flag leaf. Here is where i am confused, it is only 5 ft. tall. Healthy and happy of course, i didn't think it was supposed to flower until it was over 10 ft tall. Maybe it is not a flag leaf at all what do you all think.
i am not going to get excited yet :)

Looks like a dwarf something flagging. Looks nothing like blue Java. The petioles are too short.

If I turn out wrong you will have to address soil quality. I have plants that fruit tall but the people growing them had them fruiting at 3 to 4 feet in poor soil. I still think those petioles are pretty short.

That is weird. My Blue Java usually fruits around 12'. And I am 100% sure that I have sent you a Blue Java.
I remember that you were saying that the plant/p-stem had some slight damage when you received it and you had staked it up somehow. Is that correct? Maybe it is related to that or like mentioned above, it is growing out of some kind of deficiency. Remarkable the growing rate from about 24" pup mid May this year in only 3 month to 5'. No mix up on your end?
I don't think it is a pre-flag leaf. Usually there is some bunching of the leaves at the top of the plant and you will also see some bulging where the inflorescence is about to come out. It is hard to tell by your photos, but my best guess is that you probably will have to wait for an inflorescence. No matter what, keep us all posted. Interesting case we can all learn from.

Thanks for seeing the post, , no staking on this end, banana arrived in perfect condition in May and i put it in a pot for a short period of time and then put it in the ground then it took off. Been using fruit fuel every other week, obtw i love the stuff, all fruiting trees and nanners are happy campers. Will keep everyone posted.
happy growing,

What do you make of this, it sprouted at the base of the small leaf. is this the inflorescence you are talking about?

I don't think it is an inflorescence. Looks like overfertilized, next leaf coming out quicker then the last one unfurled. If you use the Fruit Fuel, 3/4 cup dissolved in a bucket with 5 gallons of water ONCE a month should be sufficient.
That kind of looks like a new leaf.:nanadrink:
