Stunning!!! Any advice on growing? Location (sun/shade), soil, nutrients?
Thank you Celeste!....And always a pleasure to hear from you again!.....As you asked me, here is some of my growing 'Nana plan!......
*****First part Soil!****
I learned that the Beautiful, Royal and Majestic 'AE AE' is a very "picky" 'Nana variety to grow!......Doesn't like direct sun, and to much water either!.....
As I mentioned and explained before, most of my 'Nanas are trans-planted to the ground using coarse sand. I only have 2 or 3 'Nana varieties that has been transplanted to the ground using a mix of soil, sand and perlite. Even that combination mix is a very good mix doesn't compare to coarse sand. Eventually, I will switch all my 'Nanas to coarse sand....
Also, most of South Florida soil/terrain is a mix of sandy soil, but I learned is not enough for the almighty 'AE AE' to grow fast!....In just 7 days, my 'AE AE' corm had new white roots almost 10 to 12 inches long!....I was very impressed!....If it works for one of the most "temperamental" 'Nanas to grow then it should work for most 'Nanas!.....It make sense, lesson learned!....
Just to explain, "One day I went to the beach, sat down along the shore, then I observed how the wave was coming in and out, then, I realized, in just a matter of seconds, on how the sand gets dry until the next wave comes in!....Brilliant!.....Drainage properties!.....Bingo!"......
*****Second part Location!****
My 'AE AE' is transplanted on the ground receiving partially shade from other 'Nana varieties!....I learned that the 'AE AE' while were still small, wasn't acclimated yet, so I built some type of small shade, over the 'AE AE', to avoid any direct sun. Suddenly, the 'AE AE' took off growing!....I removed the shade, once the 'AE AE' reached 6 ft. tall and she kept growing nicely, steady!.....
*****Third part Nutrients!*****
Also, as I mentioned before, in some of my threads/posts, the compost/nutrients of my 'Nanas consist of biochar (crushed wood charcoal), egg shells, coffee ground, old leaves from my fruiting trees, leaves from 'Nanas, 'Nana plants in pieces from a recently harvest and grass clippings......Also, I provided vegetable scrap for the "Nanas best friends!"*****the millipedes!*****such a valuable millicompost!*****We are so lucky to have them all over South Florida!....Once a week , I blend some 'Nana peels, egg shells, 'Nana leaves or pieces of 'Nana plants, coffee ground and then pour the "Hector's MIDAS touch mix" all over them, means into the soil, then irrigation.....
You can see the threads that I created/posted as a proof that is working for me!......
*****Remember, this is based of my personal experiences and growing conditions!....Has been mentioned in the forum, other growing conditions, soil mixes/amendments and nutrients, that also, has been very successful too!*****Hopefully it helps!.....

I 100% agree with Hector! I grow mine in my native pure sand, however wish I would have used pure clean coarse sand on my AEAE. I planted mine in Full Sun! It almost killed it. Hector suggested to build a shade structure and I did! Once it reached 5' or so I removed the shade. Mine is now about 9' and stacking. I'm hoping to preserve the pstem and get fruit next spring! AEAE seems to be a lot better once it's established (6'+). I have 4 pups and hope to plant my future ones in all coarse sand like Hector does. AEAE is the hardest Musa I have ever grown! And I almost lost it several times last winter/spring! I recommend the variegated dwarf namwa! It is tough as nails! Musa Ta-Née is also pretty tough!
Congrats Hector! So good to see your hard work has paid off!! Trust me Hector knows how to grow AEAE! That huge bunch is proof!!
