I say not accurate. That is Keith ' PR Giants '. He lives in a tropical climate under different solar conditions and night temps. They are short cycle and those are his results. I don't expect those results across the board.

I mean not accurate as a standard but probably accurate for his.

In commercial propagation in the tropics the record for consistent production from a cultivar over an entire plantation, year after year, is 42 days.

From what cultivar?

From what cultivar?

IF I remember correctly, one of it's synonyms is ... 42 days.

I agree totally NOT CORRECT. Always be suspicious when variegated $150 plants are listed as short cycle, etc. always hidden agendas when $$ is involved.

I can confirm Veinte Cohol does ripen around 60 days in zone 8b/9. And is a great tasting banana in its own way!
I will know more later this year. I am growing and should have flowers soon from:
Florida
AEAE
Dwarf Nino
Patupi
Tigua
Hua Moa
Cambodian Egg

I will post detailed results with lots of pictures when and if they fill.

Also remember someone can pick a bunch half filled and call it 40 days. When really it had another month to go! Most can be picked a month early and have great eating quality!

Unless you see documentation with pictures it is just words in my opinion!

To me, that number should be from opening of the flower to first ripe fruit, not when someone feels like cutting down a bunch of greenies. The variance is too wide if they don't have to at least ripen one finger on the vine, so to speak. (I didn't want to be corrected for bananas not being a vine. :D ) The plant should decide when they are ready instead of some random person with a knife, at least for official record keeping of the flower to fruit length.

BTW... Hua Moa is actually pretty tasty out of hand when yellow...

Does bananas.org have a curator? Seems like short cycle data fact sheets should be available more. Up until a few months ago I only knew of 3 short cycles. Patupi, veinte, and Senorita. Now I know there are many of them. Seems like a curator could ask for independent data to collect on varieties so we get more of an understanding of the short cycle topic. When I joined the forum I was not a banana grower but I did want something not taking 9 months to do something. Had I had a list and days I would have rushed out and collected as many as possible. Many of the fact sheets in general are missing data and photos are removed or expired. I even saw where one photo was used for 2 varieties. Even though I am getting a little better at using research options for bananas I still think concise information needs to be developed for the beginner and those still wanting to learn more. Bananas.org is a wonderful digital infrastructure that a curator could do wonders with if we had more available data.
