I've seen a few discussions about getting plants from USDA TARS and a ITC international banana genebank, how does one get plants from these places?

Now that I think back, I think the only reason they let me get the bananas was because I am a community farmer and documenting the bananas in my climate. I don't think people are allowed to just come and take what they want. You need to have an organized goal set.

Hey Bryce, I submitted an order and I've yet to hear back from them at all.
How long did it take for you to get yours?
Thanks
Larry

I hear back right away. I double checked and you must meet criteria. I posted a link a while back of an article about the abuse of it.

Do you have a link to the article?

I submitted for a gros michel, I have the tissue cultured ones but I wanted one from these guys to see if there's a difference, plus it's going in my daughters organic gardening class at her school.

I know these banks are government funded, but I wonder why they don't charge gardeners to receive material? It will generate income to justify producing more
certified material to satisfy demand. The more people who have the genetic material, the more likely it'll continue to be preserved for the long haul.

That is the point. The people who get it need to perpetuate it. Many people like having rare stuff and show it off but never share. Reading the guidelines you see it is more for growers who will perpetuate it instead of homeowners who will kill it.
