I've got a problem and I'am curious if anyone has had this problem or if no one knows about it.
I'll start from the beginning, my brother sprayed Torden RTU. About a year later I planted three banana plants in there, after sending out a leaf or two the bottom got real big and a pale small green leaf came out, but would not even open, so i thought it probably was the poison, i dug the one up and cut off the leaf that had not opened, soon another small one came up and i cut it off, soon a stronger leaf came out and got big and strong again, about 1/2 year later it gave fruit.
Now about a year later i plant two beautiful plants in there and they took off and looked plain beautiful, then the pups started looking very strange and twisted up, now the big plants look just like the time before, I'll put on pictures of the pup, i would be very glad for anyone who has advice, my Dad thinks it's to much fertilizer, has anyone seen how it looks if they get too much?
And now i cant figure out how to put on a photo. So you'll just have to imagine how it looks, thin leaves that dont open and a bottom that's way to big, as if the plant is still trying to send it up but can't so the bottom explodes

I think that product is for direct application not general area spraying. Is anything growing in the area? Download the label from here. Dow AgroSciences – Tordon® RTU specialty herbicide (http://www.dowagro.com/en-us/usag/product-solution-finder/herbicides/tordonrtu) This some BAD stuff!
We need pictures to help. ... How much fertilizer was applied to the bananas? Too much can cause the problems you describe. So let's hope the herbicide is not the problem.

There is not really anything growing besides grass around there, its in a green house so it doesn't get the full amount of rain, but has been getting quite a bit of rain since the plastic wasn't holding as well. Do you know how to put on pictures?
I have not been giving it that much, a hand full of dry stuff once in a while and sometimes a liquid form, now just recently some extra fertilizer got spilled, but the pups have been looking poor for quite a while, do you know how you can fix if it got too much fertilizer?
Thanks for your help!

Greenhouse??? Are these banana plants in pots? If so, it is not likely the herbicide is a problem. .... We need to know what 'handful of stuff' is? A handful of fertilizer for potted banana plants is tooo much. I would repot immediately with NO fertilizer. It may take several months for the plant to recover. Post pictures of the roots & corm if you do.
How much water are you giving the plants? The soil needs to become dry between watering. Too much water will cause root rot and the corm will be black. The corm & roots should be white.
To post pictures see my post here. It is in the thread link given above.

No they are in the dirt.
I put a little bit in my hand, i also fed the same amount to my plants in the pot and they are doing great, both gave fruit. And their pups are doing good great
I dont give those in the dirt much water because they get what runs off, and our greenhouse has had some hail damage so now they get water from that.

SB's Photos.
Here are the photos..note the deformation of the leaves.
Does the plant tissue seem real brittle and does it seem that the plant flesh is full of water??

Yes it is brittle and full of water
That is a typical symptom of a salt based herbicide .

The herbicide label does indicate this product can remain in the soil for a year or more. I can't find info as to how long, but the label states not to plant in the area until TEST show no presents of the herbicide. ... From your opening post, it appears to be about 2 years since the hebicide was sprayed. ... Is the hebicide still being sprayed used in the greenhouse? ... Additionally, the label state the person applying the product should be using 'personal protective equipment' (PPE) and access to the area be restricted for 48 hrs after application. So there may be concern for your health. If the product is effecting the plants after 2 years, it is get on you when digging in the soil. ... IMO ... Stop using this product! ...
Now the plants ... I suggest repot (use rubber gloves!!!) these into 8" or 10" with clean potting soil to see what happens. The corms appear to be sprouting multiple plantlets, so banana plant has some resistance to the chemical. But, some how the product is effecting the plant growth hormones. ... The plant/corms may die or you may have a whole bunch of little plants.

No is has'st been sprayed since then, its not a product we use around here, it was in a box of a old lady and he sprayed it in the greenhouse while nothing was in there, we took that greenhouse down and build another one over it, I thought it surely would be safe after two years but it appears to be the same thing.... i am trying to decide if i want to dig out the big plants since they are so old already it disappoints me to see them just die.
I'll probably see if the little ones knock out of it.
Cincinnana when you say salt based herbicide would that be the tordenRTU?

Rorden RTU active ingredients are picloram: 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid,
triisopropanolamine salt; 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, triisopropanolamine salt. It is a salt compound but not glyphosate salt (aka: roundup).
This product look like a modified or updated Agent Orange herbicide which was 2,4,5-T (2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and 2,4-D (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid).

Yes mam.
This product has a one two punch.
Edwmax is correct in saying this stuff is nasty.
One of the active ingredients (the second punch) Picloram is a "salt"..
It stays active for many years.
Read the link if you will and you will better understand why this product is worth every penny .

I thought I would give an update on the plants, I put a lot of sawdust in the dirt in the greenhouse, and gave the small ones dirt.
The big ones leaves kept growing out smaller and VERY crippled, they would trap in the next leaf and i would have to open it, the one big plant stopped sending anything out and the second sent out a 4" leaf that was pale and crippled, the third also kept sending out smaller leaves to about 1' before they might have been 5', then i noticed that the pups were growing out nicely from the third plant, it started sending out a little bigger leaves, until just two days ago i noticed it got smaller again, I was like "oh no" but i noticed it was thick, i peeked around the corner and there was the flag!!! I could hardly believe my eyes, it was just a year old, my other two were about 1 1/2 year old plants, but it is! I can see the flower already.
With the little plants most of them grew out of the bottom, I am planning to make a grove outside the house just for fun, not planning to get anything because they will freeze back every year.
Now I have one question, has anyone ever grown a banana and got bananas from a water sucker? Thats what this plant is, I cut both sword and water suckers and the water suckers seem as strong as the sword after a little bit. Just curious as I here they aren't plants you want to keep.

I would either move the plants or, better yet, get new plants and plant them elsewhere. Even if they did make bananas, I would not want to eat them with that stuff in them.

I kinda wander if it was fertilizer? Instead of the poisoning? But it acted somewhat the same.
Dad said that fertilizer is or can also be a salt based thing, and sawdust is supposed to deplete the ground fast of fertilizer.
I've got a picture of the plant in my profile or gallery, that's how the leaves curled up.

Too much fertilizer would do it, but Tordon is for bushing on a freshly cut bush or tree. It could still be in the soil if it was sprayed.
