*****I got The FHIA-21 Plantain and The SH-3640 "High Noon" 'Nana flowering!*****
For both plants is the second generation (crop)....Took them approx. 1 year for flowering!....On the second generation (crop), both plants are taller, stronger and thicker than the first generation (crop)....FHIA-21 Plantain is approx. 12 ft. tall.....SH-3640 "High Noon" 'Nana is approx. 10 ft. tall.....As a reference, the background wooden fence is 7 ft. tall......
Pictures taken on May 16, 2017.....
FHIA-21 Plantain.....I have it tightened with a nice thick cord to the wooden fence because of the winds!....Don't want to loose her!....I might prop her too!...A big plantain bunch is coming!......

9 hands... wow! It's probably over 100 bananas. Williams taste like a creamier, sweeter version of Cavendish. Oddly enough, not quite as good as Cavendish in my opinion, though.

Nice bunch. Congratulations.
I know nothing about plantains, so my question, do you harvest them before they turn color?

Anke,
Thank you!.....FHIA-21 Plantain harvest time is approx. 85 to 105 days after flowering!.....Pictures don't do justice but, my FHIA-21 Plantain bunch lower fingers were turning yellowish, plus they were plump too!....They were approx. on their harvesting time!.....

Commercially, most people are actually looking to buy hard green plantains. One of my customers seems to prefer the 75 day old bunches over the ones that are starting to turn. I guess with the yellow ones, you only have a few days to move them, but with the green ones, you could put them in cool storage and hold them for several weeks.
