Hi all,
Just wanted to share pics of my basjoo and another small cold hardy variety. Last year, I cut down the p-stems and covered them with 2' of leaves and put a clear plastic trash bag on top of the whole thing.
My basjoo pups recovered quickly this year because we had no late season frosts in April. I had flowers on my large basjoo p-stems last fall so this year I only have small pups that are growing right now.
The red p-stem banana is a small plant but looks pretty with red coloring on the leaf stems. The plant is cold hardy but didn't start growing until just recently. It seems to be about 3 weeks slower than basjoo as far as growing in the spring time.
Hope everyone else is having a good start to the growing season!
