I posted this in our facebook group last week (Polynesian Plantain Conservation Society), and I thought some of you here might like to see it.

We had the rare opportunity to visit the Nature Conservancy Ka'u preserve at Kaiholena yesterday and were blown away by the mature stands of Iholena bananas. There is evidence that the plantings of Iholena Kapua here date back to the earliest settlement of the islands. There were several large plots and scattered plants all over the area. The continued investment in man hours and material for pig control and fencing seems to have really paid off for the endemic species and the bananas. They run a professional operation there and I have tremendous respect for the work they do.
We were able to collect a couple keiki for the Society garden in Hilo.
Thanks Nature Conservancy!
