hey all, this is certainly a cool site. i am relatively new to the banana tree thing, i have 2 , as housetrees. I have a musa basjoo, and a raja puree(sp?). i am on a search for a tree thats tough enough to take the winters here, zone 7(Northern Maryland, just shy of the mason dixon line). i understand i may have to do some cutting back, covering with mulch, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. i would like to be able to plant now if possible. thanks in advance everyone, i look forward to any suggestions! take care!

Hi,
I grew up in the D.C. area, and we had some winters with 30" snows and temperatures approaching zero. Rajapuri might survive, with 3 feet of mulch, but you would be safer taking it in for the winter. Basjoo would almost certainly survive w/ such care, but doesn't produce edible fruit.
You've started with good musa for your climate. Maybe some local growers will have more practical advice.
