View Full Version : Moving out of the propagator

Hello all!

For the first time I was able to sprout a banana seed which has now grown into a little 3 inch sikkimensis plant! Out of the 25 seeds planted, 3 have germinated so far (with the third having grown out of the second similar to a pup. How is that already possible?? :D ).

The first plant is the fastest grower and about to unroll its fourth leaf. This has had him reach the top of the propagator he's in, so he has to move out of it soon, into the little less warm and a lot less moist environment of the living room. Also, it's roots started to grow out of its pot, so he'll need a bigger one.

As this is my first time I'm a little nervous that I might do something wrong or shock it because it looks so frail.

Any tips on ensuring a smooth transition? Should I perhaps put it under a small glass dome so it can enjoy more time in a warmer and moist climate? And would some careful feeding do it any good at this stage? (E.g. a nitrozyme spray?)

All the best,

Karl

Happy to say they did just fine! The smaller 'twins' had their lower leaves suffer a bit but are now back to growing just fine! The larger plant has always stayed content and is on it's seventh leave already.
