All,
I have a contact that is planning on ordering banana plants from his supplier in Thailand and importing them into Canada. Im going to be getting some dessert varieties to grow in my greenhouse. I was wondering if anyone else in Canada (we are in Southern Ontario) is interested in getting some banana plants and if so what varieties you are looking for? This supplier apparently has 800 varieties (not sure if that's true though). I am also getting some citrus, cherimoya and other tropical fruiting plants from him as well.

Also if anyone can suggest the "best" varieties if I had to choose a few to grow in terms of taste. I have a heated tropical greenhouse and its about 16 ft tall so I have lots of room.

Hi! Just watch out who you send the money to I was in that poition a few years ago. Thailand plants. Might be the same thing. He had a list like you wouldn't believe but wanted me to send the money to Africa somewhere. Be careful.
I am just north of Toronto. if it's a real deal bananas like Raja puri, Brazilian, namwahs, ladyfinger, mona lisa. How much per plant are you being charged?
The only reliable sources I found so far are:
- other canadian members
- floraexotica in Montreal
- Canada banana farms in Ontario.
These are your safest possible ways to get nanners in Canada.
I got plants from canada banana farms and they all do way better than my others. They have a good choice of plants too. You can also purchase bananas there when available. It will give you a chance to test before buying!
You can also try members here. That way you can be sure you'll get the variety you asked for. Too cold for shipping these days but I'll have some in spring, when it gets warmer. I'll have Dwarf Cavendish, an unknown super dwarf variety that pups like crazy and probably Truly tiny.
Be very careful where you get your plants from and ask for phyto if you purchase from another country.

No my contact is located in Toronto. He buys plants from his supplier in Thailand which he sells to nurseries, direct sales etc in Canada. We wouldn't be dealing with anyone in Thailand, he buys them and imports them for us, ensures that there are no diseases etc and then we would just pick them up and pay him. He mentioned he was placing an order for bananas for nurseries etc and asked if I wanted any specific varieties or anyone else I knew wanted some bananas and he would add those varieties to his existing order. We wouldn't be taking the risk with the supplier, we would just need to go pick them up in Toronto and pay him,

Oh and yes I have spoken to Canada Banana farms. They didn't have any idea what varieties they had and they told me that it would cost $250 per plant. I didn't bother reaching out to them again. I have namwah and I can supply anyone with those if they want that variety.

I know the owners of Canada banana farms and they sell plants starting 10$ and up depending on price and they do know their varieties. On their Fb page, they listed them as :one foot ($10), two foot ($30) and three foot ($50). And they have bigger too. I find these prices very reasonnable. I am very happy with the nanners I got from them. Just saying. I have nothing to gain from this. My best looking nanners come from that place and I will be buying again from them.

The cost for banana plants would be between $20-$40 each depending on the age of the corm. He can get adult corms or younger ones.

JP I contacted them last fall asking about their Manzano height.I'm currently following their page I believe. Are those the prices for any variety? and they ship them to you??
asimpson - I found my manzano on Amazon a few years ago dirt cheap. I'm hoping for some fruit this year. Was there anyway to tell if it was the actual ice cream? As you know many (most98%) are tall namwahs. Maybe the supplier will have the real deal. Thanks for the price range.

I know they can ship and sometime deliver for a small fee. Send them a message, they'll answer.
I have the real blue java but you'll have to be patient if you want it from me. No pups yet...

I already got 2 of those... I've got 11 varieties so far but not a lot of pups. A few are already reserved for a few canadian members here.

I would be VERY interested in getting a Namwah from you if you have any pups!
I do not have pups yet. I will probably let go 1 of my namwahs though. I'll get back to you on this. I'll put you on the list but there's a couple in front of you. That one is not free though. It's a 4 feet tall pstem. I just have too many plants and have to make a selection. My future greenhouse will not be big enough for all that I have...

dareiosk, I got the manzano on amazon, The dwarf cavendish and another from a local store. Only way to find them local is by searching around garden centre to garden centre. When I get a good number of pups I will sell them to members on here. Best of luck
