I have recently tried germinating two types of banana seed, Musa balbisiana Atia Black and Musa sikkimensis. From the 20 seed that I bought I have had 4 germinate so far but of the two best once the first leaf is just popping out it withers and dies off.
I first thought it might be a lack of humidity but the second has gone the same way with a more humid environment.
Can anyone suggest what the issue might be?

The pots are 4cm diameter by 5cm deep, I don't allow them to dry out and would say they are kept wet but not drenched.
I have been leaving them in the propagator which is heated to about 27c, should I be taking them out after they've broken the surface?
They are germinating in a coconut coir.

Sounds like damping off, a fungus. They need light and air. Take them out of the propagator as soon as they have germinated this will go some way to solving your problem.

Cheers, have taken them out as of last night. Do you think it's worth putting them into 7cm pots at this point?
