I bought two bananas a few years back one dwarf green and the other a pisang ceylon. They died back last year and I got the corms mixed up. Can anyone positively id it as a ceylon? I don't think I went home with a dwarf green that day LOL

Can anyone positively id

Positive ID? No. With pictures of the leaves, petioles, blossoms, and fruit -- we can narrow it down.

Are the bottoms of the leaves pinkish? Positive ID is difficult when young, but I find it pretty easy to narrow them down by characteristics they lose as they age. PC have a pinkish or light purplish(Depending on what you call it) coloration on the bottom of the leaves, especially noticeable when unfolding. (Either that or my PC is not a PC.) If it is any consolation, from what I see, it seems to look like a PC to me. There is no way to be certain from that picture, though.

... or old. With lots of "markers" we might be able to narrow it down to genotype.

Thanks guys. time will have to tell. I won't be overwintering bananas in the basement again. I hope it gets a decent size this year.

Steve- nothing like that like that on it as of now. I have one of these in the ground and is doing very well. The p-stem is the only part with really nice color.

I am basing my educated guess on the color in the midribs. If that color spreads to the underside of new leaves, it points to PC. I am assuming you know the few types you thought you lost and it shouldn't take much to narrow it down.

Found a pic. Last year it did have slight maroon color under the leaf. At the 3- 4 foot mark. yes it's been narrowed down from the 2 corms I lost.

Looks right for Pisang Ceylon (or any other Mysore subgroup variety). Could it be something else? Sure. But if you bought a correctly identified Pisang Ceylon, this is the one.
