Been checking grocery stores in Sydney and Melbourne on my trip here and so far haven't found any bananas other than Ladyfinger and Cavendish. I'm now in Cairns and will also be in Brisbane. Anyone familiar with either city in terms of where I might find some other types of bananas? Thanks.

There's generally not much else available in the major stores.
A local fruit shop here (Sunnybank Hills, Southern Brisbane) has what they call "Monkey Fingers" and Pacific plantains. One fruit shop at the Sunshine Coast has Goldfinger. Don't know about the Cairns region. People grow all sorts of stuff but most of it isn't for sale as banana growing is highly regulated.

Areas south of Cairns is a big producer of bananas and would be well worth the visit.

Have fun
