For container plants, should one sprinkle a small amount of granulated fertilizer on top of the soil in a 2 gallon container plant, or is it necessary to dissolve it in water first?
I prefer the sprinkle method, and if that's reasonable, what volume of a 15-5-10 or a 10-20-10 is safe per 2 gallon pot?

I believe sprinkling on top is the best, especially on your smaller plants. I once tried miraclegro on some pots and killed some and put a few others into shock. the larger ones did not care. from reading about fertilizers on banana 10-10-10 is probably the best. your fertilizers may be a little high. but there are many people here that know about it more than I.

If it is truly granular then apply it to the surface, mixing in with mulch (I recommend 1/4" orchid bark). If it is intended as a water soluble (dehydrated to the granularity of table salt), then always mix with water before applying.

In my opinion, 10-20-10 is a poor choice for bananas, but the 15-5-10 would be fine. Following the manufacturer's directions are best. Which 15-5-10 product are you considering?

Thank you gentlemen!
@ Richard, i haven't gotten far enough to select a 15-5-10 variety. I plan to take a trip to my local farm store to see what they have in stock. My primary concern is i don't want to apply too much. Let's say i do indeed find 15-5-10 here locally, how many tablespoons or other measurement would be appropriate for a 2 gallon container?
I've only been growing basjoo for a few years. Am branching out into Orinoco, Ice Cream, RajaPuri and Saba.
I've grown bamboo for many years, using Milorganite in the pots for 2 to 3 years before transplanting into the ground. It's high time i learned how to use granular fertilizer in the proper amounts.

burris,
Water solubles are measured in terms of grams or teaspoons per gallon of irrigation water. The amount you add depends on the frequency of feeding; e.g., every watering, every month, every three months ...
The fertilizer is added to irrigation water during a normal watering. It is not a supplemental activity.
