I am a plant fiend. I have a lot of different plants in my house. I bought a truly tiny banana from a nursery and I'm in love. I live in a cool climate, but I am fascinated by these beauties.
I recently picked up a banana plant just at the grocery store in the "tropical assortment" houseplants. I don't know what it is. I am assuming that it is something ornamental, but as I was searching for info, I stumbled across this forum and read for hours... still don't know the genetic nature of my new house companion, but I loved reading.

From what I understand, a truly tiny will flower and fruit, but it is difficult. Use the search feature above...

I am attaching some pictures. I hope it works because I am having a difficult time with getting pictures from the gallery to here...
It did not have a tag, just a sticker. And it was just at the local grocery store here in Idaho, so I don't really have any clues about it...
Any info would be awesome!
Oh, the total height of the plant is about 12", which may or may not be helpful, and his pseudostem is completely green, while that of the other plants I have are a reddish tone.

Acarison -
here is a link to the nursery - contact page - I looked on their site but no nanas were advertised..However, they might know the variety if you provide the label info -

It is hard to tell with very young plants. But, I think you may have a 'Little Prince' because of the number of small size leaves and close spacing . Anyway it is very close to looking like my Little Prince. There is no wine stains, so I don't think it is a Super Dwarf (Cavendish or Brazilian) or Truly Tiny. You can look at this thread to see the differences. http://www.bananas.org/f2/difference-between-truly-tiny-little-prince-14624.html
Also, you could email the grower with attached picture and label for identification. Their website is on the label. They list it as an 'assortment', so they may not know themselves. ... That's a great little plant! ...

We have another Idahoan on here and I think she found hers at the grocery store too. Must be a Gem State thing...
I love your state; it's got desert, dunes and some of the most remote wilderness in the Lower 48. At a Zone 6a, you must be down at the bottom because Wallace and Hayden Lake get pretty cold in the winter!

Yeah. I had looked at the nursery web page too, but saw that they weren't any more clear there than on their label. Calling would be a good idea.

Yeah, Idaho is weird. It's no not tropical that tropical plants are sold in the grocery store in the fall and winter... don't know why, but I saw the banana and didn't really mind having any kind, so I grabbed it. I would like to know what kind it is though, so I can better plan its needs.

Plot twist... the newest emerging leaf does have wine stains... very obvious ones. But the plant doesn't look like the Truly Tiny I have.

Potentially, I suppose. Looks like pictures of them online... That would actually be pretty awesome as I was looking to order one in the spring.
