Hi, I live in Katy, Texas, just west of Houston. We are in the final steps of installing a pool and are about to start landscaping with tropical plants, including some roho bananas, an Ice Cream, and a Little Prince.

We are in zone 9A, which has very hot summers and occasional temps in the mid-to-low 20s, although not for very long. All of our landscaping will be within 10 feet of our house or behind the pool and shaded for some part of the day--although there will definitely be plenty of sun available for many of the plants.

I work full time, so my gardening will be limited to after work and weekends. Although I adore plants, I'm not one to spend hours daily in the garden--especially when it's hot! I'm a total newbie when it comes to tropical plants, and am excited to find this forum so that I can hopefully avoid killing things out of ignorance.

Looking forward to learning from all of you.
Kathryn

Welcome to the banana nut club...
Just do your research. Some varieties withstand cold much better than others.
