It was on the clearance rack. What is it? It's very short; it's supposed to be kept inside. Oh and it needs bright light and is a "mood booster". I will contact the vendor tomorrow: delrayplants.com But a search of their site for musa or banana (pot is marked musa) does not satisfy. No wine marks but is it a Dwarf Cavendish?

ETA: I did e-mail them and got an automated reply. Wanna bet they don't know what plant they sold? Happens a lot...at least to me...

I don't think it's a Cavendish. They have wine stains and red on the petioles.

Do seeded musas make pups? Are there any musas that don't flower at all? If you or anyone knows...

I know seeded ones still make pups...I imagine they all flower, plants reproduce, it's really all they do.

Kelley replied and says she's an SDC. I paid $4.34 (I think) and maybe tax; I'd have to check. There are others on the rack. Does anyone want me to go grab another?

I guess I'll go ahead and go clear the shelves tomorrow. If they're gone, I'll have pups at some point. I don't do paypal but we can figure this out I suspect.

They had 8 of the same ones in the W. Melbourne walmart on Palm bay road this afternoon... Some had wine stains, but few stains. They don't really look like Cavendish, but then again they really aren't, are they?

Mine doesn't look Cavendish either. But I'd already assumed either TT or SDC since the supplier is in FL so I was not surprised to be right. I honestly have no idea why they didn't play up the potential for fruiting and instead labeled them them foliage "mood" plants; with proper marketing they'd have sold out to collectors at full price I'd think. Or been snapped up by Floridians who can no longer send citrus plants to friends up north. So buy some for Yankee buds! But do tell them them might produce bananas.

I have a DC already. She pups up a storm; I've already give away 3 of her progeny which apparently take after mom in that they are exceedingly fertile. Let me know if you want a "mood boosting" plant. Many moons ago I grew other MB plants...but now I'm circumspect so I gots none.

PS Why didn't you stop by if you were up the street from me? Do I need to post a picture and prove I'm human?

Ty TY nursery has them by the cotton fields around the corner and across the creek.:)I was once *this close* to submitting a huge order to them and stopped. Long before the Net with all the warnings but something seemed off so I didn't write the check. Yeah! I've had great plants from Michigan Bulb and those other "do not order from" places; my highly coveted black fig cost $3 in the 80s and her "figsticks" have pleased a lot of ficophiles. My current MO favorites are Artistic gardens (sample seed packs) and Simmons (brambles).

While searching the southern Florida Walmarts this link has the most probable banana plant you will find for sale at southern Florida stores.
Smaller novelty types.

This seems to be the top 5, but I have also seen other varieties also for sale near the Treasure Coast.

Wine stains are the description of the burgundy(wine) color of the leaf.
Some plants show similar coloration only when young but I cannot accurately recall which ones.

This leaf is of a small Siam Ruby .
The underside of the leaf is a deep purple.
The plant is a great accent plant with that nice foilage

I got back from the WalMart at Tallahassee/Bradfordville. They did have banana plants. These were labeled as Dwarf Cavendish @ $8.77 each. These plants were in BAD shape. The pots were bone dry; leaves dropping & broken; and I could see several pots where the pups had died. But the pots I picked, up the pups were almost as big as Mom. One pot Mom had died, but the 3 pups were as big as all the other pots.

You guys are going to shoot me. I asked for a department Manager to see if these distressed plant could be discounted. One wasn't available. I was sent to the Customer Service desk to ask for the Manager there. She stated she could only allow !0% off. Then punched buttons on the registrar and stated the plants would be $6.77/ea (hum ... more than 10%) and told the clerk. I had 3 pots and decided to get one more pot.

The clerk ring up 4 pot for a total of $32.??; I handed her my card; she punched a couple of buttons and I saw $12.00 on the display; the display when black; the clerk gave me the card back for me to put into the terminal; I pulled out the registrar slip to see the total charge & debit was $12. I just said THANK YOU to the clerk & she smiled. .... nuff of my rambling ...

These plant are so dry. I have them setting in a tub and I'll be flooding them to night and tomorrow and giving a little miracle grow. Then I'll re-pot.

Nice and green, no dead leaves all over, you did good... Be careful to not get root rot started with too much water. :D

morning update:
I have watered the pots 4 X's and very little water in in the tub. The plants were sucking up water like crazy. Most of the leaf wilt is gone, so the roots are in good condition. ... I'll water 3 or 4 X's today and re-pot tomorrow. ... There are 17 plants in the 4 pots!
