I am looking for any kind of tropical trees that can grow in Virginia.
When I lived in MD, there was a hardy citrus growing down the street. It's extremely thorny and the fruits are very seedy. https://www.quora.com/Do-you-eat-the-oranges-from-a-trifoliate-orange-and-if-so-how-do-you-prepare-them

There are banana people all over the world, raising bananas in all kinds of climates. The trick is figuring out what will work best for you.

If you don't care about eating your bananas, you could get a Basjoo... They will survive there. Otherwise you will have to bring them in for winter.
