Hi Everyone! I'm brand new to banana growing and I need help! The leaves on my musa basjoo are brown on the edges and disintegrating. I just moved it from a pot with potting soil (wrong I know now ) to the ground planted in 1/3 quickrete sand, 1/3 manure, and 1/3 peat moss. The newer leaves are fine. Should I cut off all the brown edged ones? I just Sprinkled Miracle grow around the planting hole. I'm in zone 5 in Ohio.

If the new growth is ok, I wouldn't worry too much. If the other leaves have some green, I would leave them on the plant as they are still making food for the plant. Do you have a picture or two? Where are you located?

Update it in your profile. That way, we won't ask you again!

Leave the green stuff alone!

First attempt at banana - total failure. Had the funeral today. Wish it wasn't so difficult to get pics from my pc to this forum.

First attempt at banana - total failure. Had the funeral today. Wish it wasn't so difficult to get pics from my pc to this forum. It really isn't. Upload to your gallery and click the pic. It will open with HTML code. C&P the code from the top line to your post and the pic will appear. If you want a huge version, click the pic again, and it will open full size.

Looks fine to me. Maybe some transplant shock but it is not dead. Looks like new growth is coming out the top. Just go easy on the water until you get 1-2 new leaves and you will be fine. Personally I wouldn't cut any leaves right now. Just let it do its thing.

I forgot to tell you, don't use the HTML version; that's why you got words instead of the pic. Click the top line and that will actually upload the pic(s) directly.

As for your plant, it has a pup, so it can't be too bad off! :nanadrink:
