Hello all,

I noticed today that one of my dwarf namwah plants are starting to fruit. I also noticed it is the third oldest or the second pup. The mother plant and the first pup have not fruited yet. Is there a reason? Will the two older plants still fruit at some point?

Are the pstems the same size?

That is "normal" from what I have experienced, though I have not seen a Namwah flower yet!

The one fruiting is the smallest of the three.

The one fruiting is the smallest of the three.

My basic understanding of banana growth is that the bloom travels up the pstem and the bloom emerges after a prerequisite number of leaves (35-40) have emerged from that pstem. What you describe seems to contradict that..unless the older pstem growth was stunted (cold weather?) unlikely in Miami..

Looks like it died back during winter or was cut back. I know your in z10b and have hardly any winters. Even though the flowering Pstem is smaller it could be the oldest and was cut back. When it resumed growth during spring it didn't have as much left to grow as the others. You can search on the site and see pictures of Pstems with no leaves. The first growth they had after winter was the flower. Just the bare flower sticking out of the Pstem. This is the only explanation I can think of.

I had cut back some of the outer layers, it appeared to be rotted... I probably cut back more than I needed to, but I thought if it had issues I would just cut it down and start over. Then this happened.

It is the youngest plant on the mat. I planted the mother in November of 2014.

Mother p-stem height - 5'8"
1st pup p-stem height - 5'
flowering (2nd pup) p-stem height - 3'8"

What are the black rings made of ? What diameter? Where did you get it.

Good way to control water and weeds. Also help mound up/raise soil level to enhance drainage.
