Here is a look at my basjoos. This is the second year for them. They are really taking off nicely now and are about 3 feet or more higher already! I covered them with leaf mulch for the winter--that's it. I managed to save 1 foot of pseudostem with a low of 15 degrees. I love the cold hardiness and rot resistance this banana offers!

Looks good! Quite a nice size grove you've got going. Got them elsewhere in the yard. too?

Thanks, guys! I started that grove just last year with three 4 inch tall plants in 3 inch pots! They grew to over 5 feet (foliage included) in one year with constant watering and a mixture of fertilizer. They each put on 2 to 3 pups! I grew one in a pot as well, and this year I planted it at my mom's house. This is my only basjoo grove, but I am also growing Ice Cream and Orinoco (standard and dwarf) in my yard.

Hey Austin! Nice to see you over here. I just planted my m. basjoo the other day from storage. It didn't look too bad really. Some say that basjoo doesn't store very well. Outer layers were dried up, but it retained most of the height.

What part of the country are you in austin that you were able to keep those out all winter? Zone 8 western Oregon. I have a problem with them getting too cold and wet during the winter here.

I'm in Little Rock, Arkansas. We have a wet winter as well, but I haven't had any problems with rot. You may want to mulch them next fall and cover the stumps with a tarp to keep the moisture out. That would probably be your best bet.
