These popped up in my compost pile this morning. Dinner or time to dig out my gloves and remove?

I can't find it in my book, which is for PA and the Mid-Atlantic. Must be a species further south.

Could this be it? It grows on lawn clippings and is edible, but I still wouldn't mess with it.

Shoot. I didn't take a picture but found new stools on a humongous oak rotting in my yard (that I didn't know was there for nearly a year--took that long to get back to it) which look just like your picture; the ones in my compost pile are frillier and whiter.

I would never survive in the woods because I don't know weeds and such. Darwinism one way or the other I guess. Unless there are ramps nearby...one can survive and thrive on only alliums IMO. Bonus? You stink for days--criminals stay away.
