They are on Ebay starting at 7.50.
GIANT~Ensete Ventricosum~ EXOTIC Banana Tree - eBay (item 380028953318 end time May-23-08 08:30:24 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/GIANT-Ensete-Ventricosum-EXOTIC-Banana-Tree_W0QQitemZ380028953318QQihZ025QQcategoryZ25463QQssPageNameZW DVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
One of the nursery people here should have a few.
Worth just buying one as it's early season and they grow huge fast. A small plant will be 6 to 9 feet tall by the end of August.
Sandy here has some small Ensete Maurelii for only 6 bucks each plus shipping so worth getting a couple , I got two . I also got a decent size 'Maurelii' from Brian's Botanicals (Aroidgrower). Brian had Ensete ventricosum last year , I'm not sure about this year. I got my Ensete Superbum from Brian's ebay site.

Chris, Just a note. Ensete's do not have pups, except in rare cases. When they do, they are generally weak and are often stress related. That is unless you do that funky propagation method and chop your plant. Gabe was just discussing it on a recent post but I can't remember where.-Nate

You could buy 100 seeds from banana-tree.com and you'll have a bunch of plants within 3 weeks. I planted 100 and at least 40 sprouted within 2-3 weeks. I soaked the seeds for 4 days prior to sowing.

I ordered one plant and 10 seeds, so hopefully I will have 5 new plants.

Dang Velutina! Sounds like you are doing something right to get them to germinate that fast! Good Job!:03:Maybe I'll try soaking mine for 4 days.

The ones I didn't soak had a very low germination rate (probably under 10%)
You could also try the plastic bag method (as described on www.exoticpalmseeds.com).
I haven't tried it, but some have had over 80% germination using this method.
If you order from banana-tree.com, I had best success with their Ensete glaucum, Ensete ventricosum, Musella lasiocarpa, Musa acuminata (sprouts look like velutina), and Musa ornata. I had 0% germination on most species/varieties I tried unfortunately :(

I ordered some seeds from them a while back and had luck w/ the Snow, Superbum, and Sikkimensis, if that's what they are. You see, I ordered a Saba corm from them last fall, grew it all winter, put it in my bed, and guess what. It's not a Saba. Saba's are solid green on the leaves and mine has splotches of red. Some sorta Acuminata. I'm sure it was an honest mistake but it has made me leary of buying from them again. I"ll E them tonight and see what they'll do to make things right.

They grow amazingly fast. I put in a one foot trunk Maureli around the first of April. The leaves are around 7' already. Amazingly fast.
