I'm in. Now I know where I'm vacationing! And of course once I've got my place set up here in Ecuador, you boys are welcome to visit.

BTW - The third picture down in the monkeys in trouble is actually a highly endangered and little-studied semi-aquatic cat species called a Jaguarundi, which is something I've been trying to help protect further South in Ecuador.

The cost of retiring in Central America is actually very expensive. You might consider a location with more natural resources, a stronger economy, and a smaller, more educated population -- for example, New Zealand.

josh, i think it is a very bold move you are making. i wish i could do it. the only thing i can say is that poachers are not very nice people. and i wish you the very best and my prayers go out to yall. and i agree....find the poachers, dont kick their ass.... put them in the ground. a protected species is something that needs to be taken care of by all not just a few. lmk if i can help in anyway. when are yall going? send me a pm. sam

Wow that's pretty ambitious. A few years back I looked into moving to New Zealand and found it to be quite expensive as so many rich people are buying up real estate there. It also appears the locals are getting annoyed with people buying the land that they can now only dream of.

Like MsKitty said, these poachers are very dangerous so watch your back if you get involved in this.

Best of luck to you if you decide to go for it!

Thanks, josh - laid out it is remarkably similar to a Jaguarundi...

In this statement, I was not referring to the price of real estate. But certainly one member of CRFG just bought nice farmland there for $1k (US) per acre.

Well, as a Canadian in South America, I've found it to be less expensive all around. Not sure about the Central American countries, but it's possible that they're more costly.

Down the block to the gas station. In the countryside, every other town has a station.

lol. when you think of places like that you think 100 miles to the nearest gas station.

What is expensive about it? My wife and I have considered the idea even though retirement is about 25 years away.

This forum is not the United States of America so you don't have freedom of speech here. If the moderators want a particular type of posting on this site, well, they have that right.

I didn't say anything negative about you, I am just saying that the moderators have the right to screen threads and take out what they think is inappropriate. Maybe you should PM them and see whats going on.

I think what you are doing is wonderful. I just found what I would guess is their official website: Tigre Salvaje a wildlife preserve in Panama (http://tigresalvaje.com/)

In regards to the photo(s) that were removed, anything thats too graphic and/or elicits horrible memories for our members will be considered for removal. And thats what happened here. In the next few minutes, I will place up a rules page and detail that and many of (the rest of) the other rules of the site. If we're to protect the animals, we're going to protect the people too :)

It was nice chatting with you on the phone about the project and I do wish you the very best. I have family in Panama and I know life there can be wonderful. The big city would only be a few hours away. The skyline is amazing, check this out:

A lot of development has been going on in recent years, so an initiative like Tigre Salvaje is very important in these times. Keep us posted!

The Owner of Tigre Salvaje was alerted to this posting and let me know and I am shocked by what I see and read here.

The Owner has written to this person who originated the posting asking him where he got permissions to create and Appeal on his behalf and where he got the photographs [because these are the Owners photographs]. No such permissions have EVER been given for anyone to use them or to organise a collection like this.

I have been helping the Owner in marketing, real estate sales as well as moral and financial support, freely, along with another of his friends over in Bocas del Torro.

Please, please, please, do not send any moneys to the originating person. If you want to help and support the Owner, get in touch with him direct through the website.

His name is David Teichmann and his email address can be gotten from the Tigre Salvaje website on the Contact Us Page. Just copy and paste the email address and write to him. But don't expect any quick answers. Tigre Salvaje is a remote place and he only rarely gets to a computer to check his emails.

If you only knew what the Owner of Tigre Salvaje and his wife have been through you would appreciate just how reprehensible this is.

If you want conformation I can provide plenty.

BEWARE.... this is a Scam and one of the worst kinds

This forum really isn't the place for this sort of activity. Get donations elsewhere, IMHO.

I say these threads like these should be deleted by the moderators.

Threads like these should NOT be deleted but lessons SHOULD be learned.

This thread has been going on for some time now as some people have been donating to this scam since last year. Were was your objection then ?

Appeals for good causes should not be restricted but people DO need to be careful.

I think your answer to be simplistic and narrow minded.

I have not seen this thread until today, and I have never noticed other threads of this nature. Maybe I have overlooked them. However, this forum is about growing bananas, not trying to get donations for different causes. If there was a "no thanks" button, I would click it for this thread. There are millions of causes asking for donations around the world. I'm not going to get into an argument here. I'm simply stating my opinion.

Okay, my apologies then.

I did not know what this site represented. I was shown the existing thread and had to respond to it.

Perhaps the Moderators should have prevented it from happening in the first place because apparently this person Josh has now disappeared possibly owing money to some other people for plants.

I hope though that everyone takes note of this cautionary tale.

I also hope some of you will register with ecowatch and possibly some may get in touch with David at Tigre Salvaje

Take care and be well.

Michael

I agree. The moderators should be on the lookout for posts that seem too good to be true, especially when new members sign up and post asking for money or donations. With all the internet spam, some innocent folks could really be taken for a lot of money. There are numerous cases where people donate and their bank accounts are totally wiped out. Be careful everyone! I would hate for your identity or all your money to get stolen. Let's watch out for each other, ok?
