I have had a banana plant for going on three years. It had put out one pup last year, that I detached and repotted, and is putting out another this spring. This plant has never flowered or fruited. 1) What is the life of a banana plant and 2) should I leave the pups in the same pot or transplant to another for maximum growth? Don't know what kind of banana plant it is. It has just regular green leaves that are not "attached" and it never got taller than 5 feet.

Update: I had to cut off the stem on this plant about 12 inches from the ground because it wouldn't grow after being put outside. Since then it has sprung a new leaf. The pup is still growing and all looks good. I would like to get it to flower or fruit this year so my wife will see that its more than just an ornamental plant. Any suggestions?

A picture of the base of the plant and also the leafs would be very helpful.
