View Full Version : What have I done?
Today I checked out my potted DC and see that it's split at the bottom of the psuedostem. The outer layer is splitting back and I can see a reddish rub barb looking color.
I've been watering it about once a day about a gallon or so at a time. It drains out the bottom. In mostly full sun. Recently fertilized a few days ago with water soluble fertilizer. Still shooting up new leaves at about 1 per week.

Sounds harmless, but a pic or two would help the experts (Not me.) figure it out for sure.

As they grow the lower outer layers will split. It gives and splits to give room for the larger Pstem as it grows. It's normal and in fact a good sign showing your plant is growing great.

Taylor, thanks.
I had no clue what was going on. I searched post for split stem and found nothing, so I assumed I had either over watered or something else. I've never seen a plant split from the bottom. I assumed the center stem was swelling, because that's what it looked like, but figured it was due to something wrong.
Glad to know it's normal.

When I see a split like that at the soil line, if I brush away a little soil there will be a new root coming out in same area.
